  • Orell Füssli has enhanced its prepress processes with a new Steel Direct Laser Engraving (S-DLE) technology for its intaglio plate production.

  • This technology was developed by JURA and the Austrian Banknote Printing Works(OeBS).

  • S-DLE is an engraving process providing full 3D control over the engraving process including all kind of line-profiling, multilevel engraving, and precise control of fine-line structures. The calibration and checks are fully automated.

  • With the S-DLE® – Steel Direct Laser Engraving, it is possible to produce directly engraved intaglio printing plates without using any environmentally dangerous chemical process or materials. At the same time, the durability of the plates exceeds the industry’s expectations.

  • More details can be found also on page 90ff of the recent published article within the 'Banknote Technology Report 10' (here)
